Species: Half-Tarkatan clone of Kitana
Alignment: Evil

Long sword (MKG)

Mileena is a clone and evil twin of Kitana, created by Shang Tsung's sorcery for Shao Kahn, using Tarkatan physiology. She looks just like Kitana when her mask is on, but when it is off, her long, sharp Tarkatan teeth are exposed.
After Shao Kahn conquered the realm of Edenia and merged it with Outworld, he decided he would keep the former king's young daughter Kitana alive and raise her as his own. Although Kitana grew up loyal to the emperor, unaware that he had murdered her father, Kahn feared if she should ever discover the truth about her past, she'd turn against him.
Kahn then ordered his sorcerer
Shang Tsung to create an evil, vicious, and loyal clone of Kitana who would take her place. Tsung combined Kitana's essence with a Tarkatan's to achieve this purpose. However, something went wrong with the clone's creation and her face deformed into a hideous Tarkatan's mouth. Rather than disposing of her, she was given the name Mileena and introduced as Kitana's twin sister. Instead of replacing Kitana as originally planned, Mileena would be used to watch Kitana and make sure she remained loyal to Kahn. Mileena despises Kitana greatly, and feels that it is her own right to rule Edenia as Princess in her place. Her fondest wish is to kill her "sister", and claim her existence for her own. Something of an opportunist, she will make use of any chance to seize power that comes within her grasp.
During Mortal Kombat II, Shao Kahn began to grow suspicious of Kitana and Mileena was ordered to watch over her sister more closely. After finding out Kitana was indeed conspiring with the Earthrealm warriors, Mileena attacked Kitana, but the princess proved to be the superior fighter and killed her. Mileena's essence descended into Netherealm (Mortal Kombat's hell), giving her even more reason to hate her sister. Damned to the Netherealm, Mileena found herself recruited by the fallen Elder God Shinnok. During Mortal Kombat Trilogy Shao Kahn made an attempt to resurrect Mileena, Shinnok saw this as an opportunity to spy on the events unfolding in Earthrealm thus allowed Mileena to be brought back from the dead and granted the ability to read Kitana's thoughts. After Kahn was defeated, Mileena was summoned back to the Netherealm.
During Mortal Kombat Gold, Mileena assisted in Shinnok's invasion of Edenia. Seeing this as a chance to finally prove she is superior to Kitana, Mileena allowed her sister to escape Shinnok's dungeons. However, Mileena would again be denied. After Shinnok's defeat, she was again bested by Kitana and secretly locked away in an Edenian prison, perhaps in the hope that she would one day reform.
Mileena remained imprisoned for many years, until the Dragon King, Onaga, returned during Mortal Kombat: Deception and began his own invasion of Edenia. Mileena was freed from her prison by Baraka. She joined Onaga, and was ordered to pose as Kitana in order to mislead the princess' armies while Onaga gathered his strength. Mileena accepted, seeing this as a chance to gain some amount of revenge against Kitana. However, as Mileena began her deception, she also began to consider taking control of the armies for herself.

Soaring Sai

MK info: Kitana

KITANA

Appearances: Mortal Kombat II, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3/Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat Gold, MK: Deadly Alliance, MK: Shaolin Monks, MK: Unchained, MK: Armageddon
Realm of origin: Edenia
Species: Edenian
Alignment: Good
Fighting styles:
Eagle Claw (MK:DA, MK:U)
Ba Gua (MK:DA, MK:U, MK:A)
Weapons:
Steel Fans (all games)
Flying Blade (MKG)

A primary hero in the Mortal Kombat saga, Kitana is the princess of Edenia and the daughter of Queen Sindel. She is over 10,000 years old, yet she appears only to be in her mid twenties to early thirties. Through the years, she has risen to great importance, first as the loyal stepdaughter of Shao Kahn; then his enemy, tearing herself away from his grasp and freeing her home realm of Edenia; and then leading an army into Outworld to combat any chance of Shao Kahn rising to power again. Kitana is a strong combination of discipline, intelligence, love, and perseverance. She shared a subtle love interest with Earthrealm champion Liu Kang, until he was murdered by the Deadly Alliance. She has aligned herself on the good side, despite her loyalty to Shao Kahn for most of her life until learning the truth about her past and real family.
She was introduced as Shao Kahn's personal assassin and daughter, but it was hard to guess her true feelings or alignment, which were revealed to the Earthrealm warriors during the tournament. She was not the daughter of Shao Kahn, but was in fact his stepdaughter, adopted by Kahn after he seized the realm of Edenia. To strengthen Kahn's claims to the Edenian throne, he killed its king, Jerrod, and married Jerrod's wife Sindel, who was Kitana's mother and would later commit suicide, when Kitana was still a child. Suspecting Kitana would someday learn the truth, Kahn instructed Shang Tsung to create a twin for Kitana, Mileena; although she was actually a grotesque and evil clone originally meant to replace her, she was instead used to keep watch over Kitana.
Kitana grew up dutifully loyal to Shao Kahn, whom she believed was her real father. She grew up to be one of Shao Kahn's personal assassins, alongside her "sister" Mileena, and her good friend
Jade. At some point in Kitana's life, she finally discovered the truth about her real father, Mileena's origins, and how Shao Kahn conquered her realm through constant visions in her dreams.
Appalled, disgusted, and devastated that her whole life had been a lie, Kitana vowed to do all in her power to overthrow Shao Kahn and restore Edenia to its former beauty and perhaps by doing so, redeem herself for all the evil she committed while serving him.
Kitana's chance finally came during Mortal Kombat II, when Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung lured Earth's heroes into Outworld. Kitana entered the tournament, but secretly began to contact one of Earth's heroes (most likely Liu Kang) trying to help them defeat Kahn. However, Kitana's efforts were discovered by her clone Mileena. Mileena attacked her traitorous "sister", forcing Kitana to defend herself. She defeated and killed Mileena but this act revealed that she was no longer loyal to Shao Kahn.
After the Earthrealm warriors escaped from Outworld, Kitana found herself accused of treason and sentenced to death for killing Mileena. However, after Sindel's resurrection and Shao Kahn's subsequent invasion of Earthrealm, she managed to escape and rejoin her newfound allies from Earth. Her main purpose was to convert the resurrected Sindel and remove the evil taint in her soul, but also had to contend with her friend Jade, who was sent by Kahn to capture her. Kitana managed to convince her to also turn against Kahn and join the forces of good. Jade then helped Kitana defeat Reptile, another assassin sent by Kahn to capture her. Eventually, Kitana succeeded in freeing her mother Sindel from Kahn's grasp, which ultimately was crucial to his subsequent defeat at Liu Kang's hands. Kitana and Sindel were able to separate Edenia from Outworld. Before leaving Earthrealm, Kitana thanked Liu Kang for all he had done.

Signature moves

Fan Toss / Ground Fan
Kitana throws one of her steel fans to her opponent. Because the move could be executed both on the ground and in mid-air, it was a great way to finish off a combo, making Kitana a deadly character in Mortal Kombat II. In Deadly Alliance, Kitana also has the option to throw her steel fan, but there's a catch: if the thrown fan connects, it would impale the enemy; if it missed or was blocked, it was gone entirely. Whether it connected or missed, Kitana was only able to throw her fans once per round. This has been altered in Armageddon, as she can use multiple fan tosses in a single round, and the thrown fan only cuts the enemy and falls away, as her original fan projectile from the second game did. (all games)
Square Wave Punch
Kitana jumps into the air and attacks incoming foes with a flying punch. This attack is taken from Sonya during her absence in Mortal Kombat II, however, in later games where they both appeared, both of them kept this attack (with the exception of Deadly Alliance, in which neither of them had this attack). Interestingly, Sonya has this attack with a name change, "Face Planter", in Armageddon, while Kitana still has this attack with its original name. (MKII, UMK3, MKG, MK:SM, MK:A)
Fan Lift
Kitana spins her fans, levitating her opponent helplessly in the air. This attack served as both an anti-air attack and a set-up for juggle combos. This was one of the most devastating moves in MKII as players could avoid jump attacks and handicap the player for a limited time, yet the effectiveness of the move has decreased significantly in each game since then. In Deadly Alliance and Armageddon, performing this move while in an unarmed fighting style will automatically switch the player into Steel Fan style. (all games)
Fan Swipe
Kitana slashes at her enemy with her razor sharp fan. (MKII, MKG)
Pretty Kick
Kitana flies toward her opponent, kicking him/her multiple times. (MK:DA, MK:U, MK:A)
Pixie Dust Teleport
Kitana disappears in a violet cloud and reappears behind her opponent. This move is taken from Jade. (MK:A)

MK info: Jax

JAX

Appearances: Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3/UMK3/MK Trilogy, Mortal Kombat 4/Gold, MK: Deadly Alliance, MK: Shaolin Monks, MK: Unchained, MK: Armageddon
Realm of Origin: Earthrealm
Species: Human
Alignment: Good
Fighting styles:
Muay Thai (MK:DA, MK:A)
Judo (MK:DA)
Weapons:
Spiked Club (MK4, MKG)
Tonfa (MK:DA, MK:A)

Jax was the first African American character in the Mortal Kombat series and made his debut in the second game. He is portrayed as an archetypical American hero. In the chain of command of the Special Forces, he is Sonya Blade's direct superior and clearly the counterbalancing force of Sonya's impulsiveness. Jax is clear-headed, careful, and always keeping a watch on what his men are doing. When the need arises, he is a beast on the battlefield with the attitude and ferocity of a lion. He unscrupulously makes use of the most advanced technology to improve both himself and his unit.
Jax first came across the Earthrealm warriors when he found Johnny Cage in the waters close to the Special Forces Agency. Jax began interrogating him. Jax didn't believe the story of the tournament told by Johnny Cage until he receives a video signal from Sonya, whom is temporarily working with Kano to escape the Outworld. As an apology for not believing Cage, Jax visited him at a commercial shoot where Johnny is being attacked. Jax participated in a short battle with Kintaro here. The battle is interrupted when the Earthrealm warriors arrive to help. After they save Johnny from the intruders, they travel into Outworld to compete in the tournament and save Sonya. Soon Jax came to learn of the Emperor's dark plans for Earthrealm. As soon as he had freed Sonya (and inadvertently Kano), he headed back home to warn his government of the impending danger. He would find himself frustrated, however, as not only did Kano escape back into Outworld, but also by the fact that the government did not believe the major.
Jax began to prepare for war covertly and once more outfitted his arms with bionic implants. After helping foil Shao Kahn's attempt to permanently claim Earth as his own, Jax became the commanding officer of the Outer World Investigation Agency (OIA). They operated from an underground bunker and had scouts in various realms. Not only did they explore and map these realms, but they also looked for and destroyed inter-realm portals that could lead to Earth.
Jax briefly assisted Raiden in the defeat of Shinnok after he found out that Sonya was in Edenia. It was during these events that both he and Sonya would find the Lin Kuei cyborg Cyrax, malfunctioning and trapped in a desert. Returning with him to their home base, they reversed the automation process, restored his humanity, and gained a new ally.

Kung Lao is a former Shaolin monk and a member of the former White Lotus Society. He stands in the shadow of his great ancestor, the Great Kung Lao, but unlike his great ancestor he has no desire to be champion and would rather live a life of peace. He is the sparring partner and best friend of Earth's champion, his fellow Shaolin monk Liu Kang. As well, he has sought counsel from master Bo' Rai Cho. Of the Earthrealm warriors, Kung Lao is the most outspoken pacifist, although he will not hesitate to severely punish those who attack him, Earthrealm, or his friends. His trademark is his razor-rimmed hat, which he can employ quite powerfully and effectively in combat. Many of his fatalities involve the use of his hat to some extent.
Kung Lao is the last known descendant of the Great Kung Lao, a former Champion of Mortal Kombat, who lost the title to Goro 500 years previously, resulting in Lao's death at Goro's hands and the start of Shang Tsung's rule over the tournament. Like his friend, Liu Kang, Kung Lao is also a member of the White Lotus Society. Kung Lao was originally the one to represent the Shaolin in the Mortal Kombat tournament but he declined, knowing of the consequences of becoming champion. As a result, Liu Kang was chosen and emerged as the winner.
When the Shaolin Temples were attacked by
Baraka and his Tarkatan soldiers, Liu Kang and Kung Lao resolved to travel through the portal to the Outworld and avenge their fallen Shaolin brothers. Although he joined his friend in his furious quest, Kung Lao's ultimate goal was to rebuild the White Lotus Society at the Wu Shi Academy, in order to train a new generation of warriors for the coming ages. He, along with Liu Kang, ventured into Outworld to do battle with Outworld's forces in a new tournament. Following Shao Kahn's defeat at Liu Kang's hand, the monks returned to Earth and began training the next generation of Shaolin warriors.

MK info: Shang Tsung

SHANG TSUNG
Appearances: Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3/UMK3/MK Trilogy, MK: Deadly Alliance/Tournament Edition, MK: Shaolin Monks, MK: Armageddon
Realm of Origin: Earthrealm/Outworld
Species: Human/Outworlder
Alignment: Evil
Fighting styles
Snake (MK:DA, MK:A)
Crane (MK:DA)
Weapons
Straight Sword (MK:DA, MK:A)

A powerful and deadly sorcerer and a primary villain in the Mortal Kombat series, Shang Tsung is a demonic shapeshifter who needs to consume souls in order to sustain his health and life. In the Mortal Kombat series, he is the epitome of cunning and decadence, as symbolized by his preference for lavish parties, grand palaces, and stylish clothing. Unlike the crude Shao Kahn, this bombast is a façade, disguising Tsung's true intellectual and mental sophistication. His nemesis is Liu Kang, but throughout his unnatural lifespan, he has earned the hatred of many others, including Kung Lao and Kenshi. Only Shao Kahn, Quan Chi, and Shinnok can match his skills as a sorcerer.
Shang Tsung's past remains shrouded in mystery, with his exact origins never specified and unclear at best. According to some sources, he was originally a human from Earthrealm.
According to the first Mortal Kombat comic, Shang Tsung was cursed by "his gods" not only to kill his enemies, but to take their souls as well. Only in this way would he hold off his grim fate: to age rapidly and die prematurely. As a side effect of his consuming the souls of others, Tsung was able to access their memories and knowledge, a happenstance which would greatly benefit him years later.

Signature moves
Morphing
Shang Tsung could assume the shape of anyone in the game. In the second and third games, he couldn't morph into the bosses. (Although in Mortal Kombat II, as a fatality, he could briefly morph into Kintaro to punch the opponent in half.) In Trilogy, he could morph into anyone in the PSX, Saturn, and PC versions only. (MK, MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK:DA (GBA ports), MK:SM)

Flaming Skulls
Shang Tsung would send a fiery skull at his opponent. In the first game he could throw up to six. In the other games it was either one, two, or three only. (MK, MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK:SM)

Flaming Skull Eruption
Shang Tsung could summon his fiery skulls to burst out of the ground in a series of three. (MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK:SM)

Soul Steal
If he needed energy, Shang Tsung could drain it from the other player. He also does this in Shaolin Monks in a manner similar to his Mortal Kombat II fatality. (MK:DA, MK:SM, MK:A)

Forward Fireball
Shang Tsung shoots a fireball at his opponent. (MK:DA, MK:A)

Fire Ring
Shang Tsung shoots a fireball from each hand. The two fireballs come together in a circle-like process, hitting the opponent at close or far range. (MK:DA, MK:A)

MK info: Goro

GORO

Appearances: Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat 4/Gold, MK: Deception, (GameCube only), MK: Shaolin Monks, MK: Unchained, MK: Armageddon
Realm of Origin: Outworld
Species: Shokan
Alignment: Evil
Fighting styles:
Shokan (MK:D, MK:A)
Kuatan (MK:D)
Weapons:
Dragon Fangs (MK:D, MK:A)

Goro was introduced in the very first Mortal Kombat game as the sub-boss, where he was notoriously difficult to defeat. More than two thousand years old, he is the Prince of the Shokan race, hailing from the Kuatan realm of Outworld. As a General in the Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn's militia, he fights for the pride and glory of his people.
Goro became Grand Champion of the Mortal Kombat tournament after defeating the Great Kung Lao. For 500 years, he remained undefeated and helped Shang Tsung grow ever closer to achieving Shao Kahn's goal of domination over Earthrealm. In his 10th title defense, however, he faced Liu Kang. Kang pushed him to his limits and finally defeated the mighty Shokan warrior. In the tournament's aftermath, Goro went missing after a battle where he fought Kano, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade. It is theorized that he actually retreated back to his kingdom during this time. Shang Tsung, meanwhile, faced execution for his defeat at the hands of Liu Kang and for Goro's apparent death.
Goro would resurface after Kahn's downfall, during the events of Mortal Kombat 4/Mortal Kombat Gold. Despite having the intent to avenge his losses at Liu Kang's hands, Goro began to take an interest in the matters of his own race and joined his fellow Shokans in war against the Centaurians. Princess Kitana intervened and negotiated both races through a truce and peace accord. The meeting was interrupted by Kung Lao who desired to challenge his ancestor's killer. The Shaolin Monk lashed out with a ceremonial strike of revenge that left Goro's chest scarred. Considering the score settled, the two shook hands. When Shinnok and his legion were defeated and Edenia was free once more, Goro and the Shokan race decided to ally themselves with the Edenians, agreeing to sign a peace treaty with the Centaurs as a condition of their new partnership.
Years later, during the time of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, the united Edenian and Shokan forces attacked the weakened Shao Kahn's armies. Exhausted from battle, Goro was mortally wounded by Noob Saibot, and Kitana held a royal funeral for the fallen Shokan prince. However, Goro is able to survive, being saved from death by Shao Kahn himself, with the promise of returning the Shokans to their former glory and the banishment of the Centaurs in exchange for his allegiance. Agreeing to these terms, Goro placed his royal seal on a nearby disfigured fallen Shokan (whom Kitana and the Shokan army found and mistook for him, successfully deceiving them while hiding his defection), and resumed his place at Shao Kahn's side.

SIGNATURE MOVES
Fireball
Goro shoots a green fireball out of his hand. This move was stronger than most projectiles, just like his physical attacks. It also appeared in Mortal Kombat 4, but this time he shot it from his mouth, similar to Kintaro. In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the fireball is larger, red, and does standard projectile damage. In Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Goro can shoot one from each hand, or four in a row. (all games)
Leaping Stomp
Goro jumps off screen and comes crashing down on his enemy. (all games)

Chest Pound
Grabbing his opponent with his lower arms, Goro then pounds them with his upper arms, shaving off a good portion of his opponent's life. (all games)
Tremor Pound
Goro either stomps or pounds the ground, creating a small tremor and knocking his opponent into the air. (MK4, MKG, MK:D, MK:A)

Spinning Slaps
Goro holds his arms out and spins around, smacking the opponent multiple times with his outstretched fists. (MKT, MK:D, MK:A)

MK info: Reptile

REPTILE
Appearances: Mortal Kombat I (as a hidden character), Mortal Kombat II, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3/Trilogy, Mortal Kombat 4/Gold, MK: Deadly Alliance/Tournament Edition, MK: Shaolin Monks, MK: Armageddon
Realm of Origin: Zaterra (Now part of Outworld)
Species:
Saurian
Alignment: Evil
Fighting styles:
Hung Gar, Crab (MK:DA)
Pao Chui (MK:A)
Weapons
Battle Axe (MK4, MKG)
Kirehashi (MK:DA, MK:A)

Reptile is a green garbed, human-like reptilian ninja that embodies the archetype of the unhappy underling. Reptile is said to be physically hideous and repulsive, but he is renowned for his great stealth and unquestioning loyalty. Unlike many other henchmen of the lords he has served, Reptile does not strive for power. Rather, he is caught in a delusional state of mind, an obsession about finding the last remaining member of his race, the Saurians, or freeing his homeworld from Outworld's grasp. This obsession is so important to him that it causes temporary fits of insanity.
Based on his first appearance as a hidden character in the first Mortal Kombat game, Reptile was simply a merge between the original Sub-Zero and Scorpion characters. Mortal Kombat co-creators John Tobias and Ed Boon admitted in an interview that the "birth" of Reptile was when they took Sub Zero and Scorpion, fused the two into one and colored him green ( blue + yellow = green). They christened this character "Reptile" due to his green color and their reference to lizards. While he wasn't given a lot of character depth at the time, he was worked on more (character wise) and later, in Mortal Kombat II, Reptile was developed into a full character with his own special moves and would be available from the outset.
It is not quite clear how old Reptile is. Estimates run in the tens of thousands of years, or even millions. What is known, however, is that the Earthrealm was nearly destroyed by a battle between the gods millions of years ago. Reptile's race of raptors, or Saurians, escaped to another realm, Zaterra, where it was then invaded and annexed by Outworld's emperor, Shao Kahn. As was the usual process for Kahn conquering another world, most of the Zaterrans were killed in the ensuing battles, only leaving a handful of people left. Among those, or among those descended from these survivors, was Reptile. Unlike the others of his kind, who were forced into slavery, Reptile was trained to be a servant of both Kahn and Shang Tsung. Because of this, it is unclear exactly where Reptile's place of birth is - although Earth, Zaterra, or Outworld are the three likely choices.
Because of his state of separation from the other members of his race, and especially his matriarch, Reptile had begun to show signs of devolution. Where he used to mask his appearance by posing as a human in the earlier games, this proved to be no longer possible. By the events of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Reptile had nearly gone insane and had a significantly changed appearance, including a tail. With his beastial look, he looks identical to the Lizard in the Spider-Man series.
Reptile's body became the vessel for the reincarnated Onaga at the start of the events of MK Deception. It was only towards the end of MK Deception that Nightwolf was able to separate Onaga's soul from Reptile's body and bound the Dragon King's soul in the Netherealm.
